Schaumburg Flyers News Release
Joliet, IL - After a long overnight bus ride back to Chicagoland from Kansas City the night before, the Schaumburg Flyers couldn't seem to wake up their bats in a 7-1 loss to the Joliet JackHammers at Silver Cross Field. JackHammers starter Aaron Trolia (2-0) struck out 11 Flyers in 6.2 innings of work, while allowing three of the Flyers' four hits during the game.
Flyers starter Brad Mumma (1-2) was looking to get back on the winning track after suffering a loss to Joliet (6-6) in his last start at Alexian Field. After working out of jams in the first two innings, Mumma was finally figured out in the fourth. Four hits to lead off that inning for Joliet - including a two-run line drive home run by Cory Harris into the teeth of a stiff wind - led to three early JackHammers runs.
In the end, that would be enough for Joliet, as Schaumburg (5-7) couldn't capitalize on the few chances Trolia allowed them in the game. Specifically, the JackHammers starter had RF Lance Koenig (1-for-2) hung out to dry on a pickoff move with two outs in the second inning. While Koenig was frozen, Flyers 3B Vince Harrison (1-for-4) moved in to score from third base before Koenig was put out. But the Joliet defense quickly recognized the ploy and eventually caught Harrison stealing to end the threat.
The rest of the way, Trolia was a strikeout machine. He put 10 Flyers out on strikes, and another (2B Bo Hart) reached base after Joliet C Nick Prosise dropped a third strike pitch in the first inning. Trolia earned a strikeout in six of the seven innings he appeared in, and struck out three batters (though not necessarily the side) in the first and sixth frames. A combination of Joliet pitchers Tyler Meigs and Daniel Touchet allowed only one hit in relief of Aaron Trolia.
As the season series between the two teams now stands at two wins apiece, the Flyers will look to pull ahead again tomorrow. Schaumburg RHP Dan Frega (1-1, 3.86) is scheduled to start against Joliet LHP David Moraga (1-0, 1.50). Game time is 7:05 p.m. from Silver Cross Field in Joliet, and catch every pitch on flyersbaseball.com.
