RH Omar Beltre (2-8, 2.67) vs. LH Luis Perez (4-4, 6.96)
TONIGHT: The RedHawks host the Las Vegas 51s (Toronto Blue Jays) in the second of a 4-game set. OKC snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 10-8 win last night. It was the RedHawks' 14th time the RedHawks have scored in double digits. OKC is 16-8 against A.L. affiliates and 46-48 against N.L. clubs. The RedHawks will start righthander Omar Beltre, who was rested the last time through the rotation and has not pitched since Aug. 4. The 51s will start lefty Luis Perez. OKC owns a 3.5-game lead over New Orleans in the American South Division.
HAWKS GAIN ON ZEPHYRS, ISOTOPES: Last night's 10-8 win increased the RedHawks' lead over both New Orleans and Albuquerque in the American South. New Orleans was rained out, so OKC moves 3.5 games up on the Zephyrs, who will try to play 2 tonight at home. Albuquerque lost a series opener in Portland to fall 4 games behind the RedHawks, who own the largest leading margin in the PCL entering play today.
TIDBITS: Guilder Rodriguez delivered a bases-loaded, 2-run single in the fifth inning last night to give OKC a 7-5 lead...Rodriguez has had 58 official at bats with OKC and 9 have been with the bases jammed, or 1 in every 6.4 of his at bats has been has been with the bases full...he's 1-for-9 in those situations...The 10-8 final last night improved OKC's record to 6-11 in games decided by 2 runs...in games decided by 1 or 2 runs, the RedHawks are 21-29...in those decided by 3 or more OKC is 41-27...Kevin Richardson's 2-run homer last night was his sixth of the year and none have been solos...Richardson has one 3-run homer and five 2-run shots...the homer came in the fourth inning, which has followed a trend of home runs early in games ...OKC has gone 21 games without homering after the fifth inning...the last late-game OKC homer was by Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the ninth inning of an 8-4 win at Iowa July 22.
DAVIS, BOGGS AMONG LEADERS: Chris Davis is tied second in the PCL in hitting (.347) with the recently promoted Jay Gibbons of Albuquerque. The leader is Albuquerque's John Lindsey at .377. Davis is seventh on-base percentage (.403). Brandon Boggs is third in the league in walks with 71 and eighth in on-base at .401.
PITCHING LEADERBOARD: The RedHawks maintain the PCL's best ERA at 3.85. Iowa is second at 4.10. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (77) in either affiliated Triple-A league, although Cody Eppley surrendered homers last night to Danny Perales and Mike Jacobs. The only team to have more than a 2-homer game against the RedHawks is Iowa, which collected a pair of 3-homer games and one 4-homer contest in the concluded season series.
KIRKMAN MAKES RELIEF DEBUT: All-Star lefty Michael Kirkman made his first Triple-A relief appearance last night. He struck out the first two hitters he faced in the sixth inning before allowing a single, walk and 2-run double. He finished by fanning Mike Jacobs, going 1 inning in a no decision. Kirkman, primarily a starter throughout his career, has been moved to the bullpen to increase his versatility in the event of a need at the major league level. Kirkman is the current PCL Pitcher of the Week, his second such honor this season.
