New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The Reno Aces had been swept in both doubleheaders they played this season, but turned the tables on the New Orleans Zephyrs on Saturday night, winning both games of the twin bill, 6-0 and 5-3.

It marks the first doubleheader sweep in the brief two-year history of the Aces.

In game one, the Aces jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, as shortstop Tony Abreu launched his first home run of the season, a three run shot to deep right-center field.

Reno added to their total in the top of the fifth, when first baseman Brandon Allen blasted his team-leading 22nd home run, a solo shot, into the pool in right field.

The Aces would tack on two more in the top of the seventh, as catcher Carlos Corporan hit his tenth long ball of the year, a two-run shot plating Ryan Roberts.

Z's starter Nic Ungs (1-1) surrendered four runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits and four walks over five innings.

Reno starter Zach Kroenke (5-3) got the win, after allowing just two hits and three walks, while striking out four over five innings.

In game two, the Zephyrs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to single runs in the second and fourth innings.

In the bottom of the second, as Danny Richar delivered his fifth home run of the season, all of which have been off of right-handed pitchers.

In the fourth, Mark Saccomanno hit a solo home run of his own, his fifth of the year, giving the Z's a 2-0 lead.

After Zephyrs starter Adalberto Mendez allowed just three hits over five innings while striking out six, reliever Chris Leroux was touched for five runs in the top of the sixth.

After striking out Chris Rahl to lead off the inning, Abreu was hit by a pitch and Cole Gillespie walked.

With runners on first and second, Leroux struck out Allen before allowing a two-run single to Ed Rogers to tie the game at two apiece.

After Rogers tied the game, Drew Macias followed with a run-scoring single and catcher Ed Easley capped off the inning with a two-run double.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, three straight batters reached base to lead off the inning, before Bryan Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Saccomanno. Neil Wilson followed Peterson by drawing a walk to re-load the bases, before Reno reliever Jason Urquidez got Brett Carroll to pop out in foul territory and struck Scott Cousins out swinging.

The Z's and Aces resume play on Sunday night, as lefty Wes Whisler (1-6, 7.50) squares off against Reno righty Josh Collmenter (4-3, 5.92).
