Reno Aces News Release

METAIRIE, LA - A shutout effort in game one and a five-run sixth inning in game two pushed the Reno Aces to a doubleheader sweep over the New Orleans Zephyrs Saturday night at Zephyr Field.

The Aces led early in the opener and cruised to a 6-0 victory. In the second half of the twin bill, Reno rallied late to collect a 5-3 win. The two-game effort marked the first doubleheader sweep in Aces franchise history.

In the opener, starter Zach Kroenke (5-3) allowed just two hits and no runs over five innings of work to earn the victory. Carlos Rosa struck out four in two scoreless innings, slamming the door on Reno's fourth shutout effort of the season. Tony Abreu blasted his first home run with the Aces, Brandon Allen hit his team-leading 22nd homer, and Carlos Corporan mashed his single-season career-best 10th long ball of the year.

In the nightcap, the Aces offense was dormant for most of the night, as the Zephyrs built a slim 2-0 lead through five innings. In the sixth, though, the Reno offense came to life, pushing across five runs to put the Aces in the lead for good. Ed Easley and Ed Rogers knocked in two runs apiece in the frame for Reno. In a bullpen game for the Aces, TJ Beam (3-3) earned the win and Jason Urquidez picked-up his fourth save of the season.

The series continues on Sunday afternoon from Zephyr Field. RHP Josh Collmenter (4-3, 5.92 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while LHP Wes Whisler (1-6, 7.50 ERA) toes the slab for the Z's. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. PT, and all the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or online at RenoAces.com.

Reno returns home Saturday, August 21, for a four-game series against Tacoma. Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
