Tonight's Game-- The RedHawks start an eight-game road trip with a tilt at Werner Park against the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m.
Last Night-- The RedHawks salvaged a split of their four-game series with New Orleans in a 12-3 win at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. New Orleans struck first with a two-run homer from Bryan Petersen in the first inning. The RedHawks scored three in the second, going ahead after Jimmy Paredes drew a bases loaded walk. Two more followed in the fifth with RBIs from Mike Hessman and J.B. Shuck. The RedHawks blew the game open with seven runs over the seventh and eighth. Starter Brett Oberholtzer bounced back from a previous rough start nicely, allowing one earned run over six strong innings. The lefty allowed two hits with two walks and three strikeouts. New Orleans All-Star Tom Koehler (9-8) was lifted in the fifth after allowing five runs--three earned--and six hits over 4.2 innings.
Tonight's Probable Pitchers-- Dallas Keuchel is set to make his first full start since returning to the RedHawks...After spending about a month with the Astros, Keuchel tossed three scoreless innings in an intentionally abbreviated outing last Sunday in New Orleans...He allowed two hits and retired the final six hitters he faced...He currently owns the lowest walk rate in the PCL, issuing 1.3 walks per nine...In four starts with the Astros, Keuchel was 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA...He allowed just one run in three starts and limited ML hitters to a .223 average...His first ML win came on June 23, when he pitched a complete game against the Cleveland Indians (9 IP, ER, 6 H)...His one previous start against Omaha was also a complete game, but he lost after allowing four runs over eight innings on May 4...Chris Dwyer will make his Triple-A debut for Omaha...In 17 games (16 starts) for Northwest Arkansas, Dwyer went 5-8 with a 5.25 ERA...He led the Naturals in wins, innings (85.2) and strikeouts (71), but he has allowed the third-most homers in the Texas League (13) and issued the fifth-most walks (44)....Dwyer's last start was a week ago today when he took the loss against San Antonio after giving up six runs and seven hits over 5.1 IP...He was a fourth round selection of the Royals in 2009 from Clemson University.
Blowout City-- The RedHawks tied their largest margin of victory this season with their 12-3 romp over New Orleans yesterday. Each of their five previous wins came by just one run.
Opening Statements-- The RedHawks have won 13 of their last 15 series openers.
Breaking Even-- The RedHawks are 23-24 away from OKC this season. A win tonight would put the RedHawks at .500 on the road for the first time since they were 13-13 on May 26. Winning won't be easy, as the Storm Chasers are 36-15 at Werner Park, and like the RedHawks, had a 14-game home winning streak earlier this year.
The Extra Bat-- The RedHawks are 7-12 in games using a DH. Collectively, team DH's this season have hit .261 with six homers and 18 RBIs.
Angel in the Infield-- Angel Sanchez is on a season-best 10-game hit streak, going 14-for-34 (.382). Each of the last three games he has collected just one hit after a stretch of three of four with at least two hits.
Shuck-tacular-- J.B. Shuck is on a season-best seven-game hitting streak, going 8-for-18 (.444). What makes it more impressive is that he's only started three times during the streak and has had two or less at-bats four times.
Bases Loaded Bashers-- During the New Orleans series, the RedHawks went 5-for-10 with 13 RBIs with the bases loaded. They're now hitting .367 with the bases full for the season, ranking fourth-best in the league.
Two-Out Thrashers-- 18 of the RedHawks' last 30 runs have scored with two outs.
Great Divide-- Four of the RedHawks' last six losses have been by seven or more runs. They had lost just two games by seven or more runs all season before the recent stretch.
Not Respecting Boundaries-- With Bryan Peteresen's dinger yesterday, the RedHawks have set a season-long streak by allowing at least one homer in 10 straight games. They've surrendered 21 during the streak, and the 22 given up in July is the most in the PCL.
There's Some Quality-- Brett Oberholtzer's start yesterday was the first quality start in 10 games for the RedHawks. It was also just the second time in that same stretch the starting pitcher lasted more than five innings.
Against the Storm Chasers-- The RedHawks have struggled against the Storm Chasers this season, dropping seven of eight contests...Their previous trip to Werner Park in May resulted in the only series in which the RedHawks have been swept this year, including back-to-back losses on walk-off homers, May 5-6...The RedHawks have been outscored 53-33 and have only hit .237, while the pitching staff has posted a 6.37 ERA...Anthony Seratelli is 6-for-31, but has five home runs...David Lough has collected 14 RBIs over the eight games...While playing for New Orleans, Matt Dominguez hit .407 with 11 RBIs over seven games against the Storm Chasers...They will meet one more time after this series, July 28-31 in Oklahoma City.
