Oklahoma City RedHawks (68-72) at Memphis Redbirds (74-66)

Games 141& 142 | Sept. 5, 2009, 6:05 pm CDT | AutoZone Park | Memphis, TN

Tonight's scheduled starting pitchers:

RH Brian Gordon (7-2, 3.07) vs. RH Adam Ottavino (7-12, 4.68)

LH Chris Cooper (0-0, 0.00) vs. RH P.J. Walters (7-10, 4.66)

TONIGHT: The RedHawks and Memphis Redbirds play a 6:05 pm doubleheader as the second and third games of a 4-game series, the final series of the regular season. Memphis broke a 2-2 tie with 3 eighth-inning runs last night to take Game 1 by an eventual final score of 5-3. Today's doubleheader makes up for a rainout at AutoZone Park April 12, Day 4 of the season. Memphis leads the American North Division by 1.5 games over Nashville. Brian Gordon and lefty Chris Cooper will start for OKC, while righties Adam Ottavino and P.J. Walters get the call for Memphis.

BENSON FINISHES THE TASK: Kris Benson tossed OKC's sixth complete game of the season last night, going 8 innings and 120 pitches in the road loss. RedHawks pitchers have taken a loss in 3 of their 6 complete games. Elizardo Ramirez (July 2 at Iowa, 2-1) and Luis Mendoza (Aug. 25 at Omaha, 1-0) took the other losses in 9-inning games. Doug Mathis has a pair of 7-inning, complete-game wins. Mendoza tossed a 9-inning no-hitter Aug. 14 for the other.

ROAD WOES: The RedHawks have lost 7 straight road games, adding to an already season-high losing streak away from home. The last OKC road win was a 10-4 decision Aug. 24 at Omaha. Since then, the RedHawks dropped the Omaha finale, a 5-game series in Iowa and last night's series opener. The RedHawks and Portland Beavers share the league's lowest road win total, 27.

BETTER THAN 2008: The RedHawks ended their home schedule two nights ago 41-31, which tops the 40-32 mark for last year's division and American Conference champions. The 2008 RedHawks, however, went 36-36 on the road, while this year's club is 27-41 away from home.

HOMERS RARE AT AUTOZONE: The RedHawks have not homered at AutoZone Park this season, making it the only place they've played where they have not hit a home run. OKC has a league-low 74 home runs and has allowed the fewest, 88. Memphis has 2 homers in the season series at AutoZone Park, Tyler Greene and Bryan Anderson on April 10.

BULLPEN STREAK: The RedHawks' bullpen was not needed last night, but has not allowed a run in the last 3 games it was used, spanning 7.1 scoreless innings. Reliever Mike Hinckley has an 11-inning scoreless streak spanning August and September.

THE EYRE UP THERE: Texas recalled Willie Eyre yesterday. He joins recent former RedHawks Kevin Richardson, Warner Madrigal and Guillermo Moscoso as September callups. Brandon Boggs was also recalled Sept. 1 to be placed on the 60-day DL with a shoulder dislocation to make room on the 40-man roster. Pedro Strop had his contract purchased Aug. 27.

CLOSE CALLS: OKC's 4-3 win in 10 innings on Thursday boosted its league-leading win total in one-run games to 26. The RedHawks are 26-16 in that department. Sacramento has a 25-12 mark in one-run decisions. The RedHawks are 13-4 in extra-inning games, behind only Sacramento's 15-4 record. OKC is a league-best 14-4 in games tied after 8 innings.

HUFFMAN HITTING: Royce Huffman owns a 7-game hitting streak, during which he's 9-for-26 (.346). Huffman has also hit safely in 14 of his last 15, going 18-for-46 (.391) with 1 homer and 6 RBIs in that span. He has more doubles (29) than any other RedHawk has extra-base hits (excluding Travis Metcalf's stats with Omaha).

Monday Sept. 7 @ Memphis RH Bryan Corey 6-9, 5.52 vs. RH Oneli Perez 4-3, 2.80 KEBC AM 1340, 1:05 pm
