Z's trip up Sounds again, 6-5
September 5, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Gaby Sanchez homered for the second straight game, helping the New Orleans Zephyrs take a second straight one-run game from the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night, 6-5. Sanchez belted his 16th home run of the season in second inning to put the Zephyrs on the board after Nashville had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the frame.
The Zephyrs would tie the score two batters later, after Alejandro De Aza singled, and came around to score on a Gookie Dawkins since followed by a throwing error by Nashville left fielder Brendan Katin.
Sanchez gave New Orleans the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly, and after Nashville tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, the Z's responded with three in the bottom half, again helped by Sounds miscues.
Sounds starter Mike Jones (1-2) walked De Aza with the bases loaded to force in a run, and two more scored when shortstop Adam Heether booted a ground ball to boost the Zephyrs lead to 6-3.
Brian Lawrence (7-4) won for the third time in five starts with New Orleans, limiting the Sounds to three runs and five hits in six innings. Matt DeSalvo picked up his fourth save despite allowing a solo homer to Katin in the ninth.
The Zephyrs and Sounds continue the season-ending four-game series Sunday on Fan Appreciation Night at Zephyr Field, with RH Chris Volstad making his Z's debut against LH Lindsay Gulin at 6:00 p.m.
