Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK - Omaha (64-78) had no answer for Express starter Andy Van Hekken or the Round Rock offense Saturday night, as Round Rock (61-81) rolled to a 6-1 win.
Van Hekken allowed one run on five hits with a season-high nine strikeouts in eight innings of work, earning the win in his longest start of the season.
Lou Santangelo led the Express with two hits, including a home run.
Round Rock used a big second inning to sink the Royals, and it started with a John Gall walk with two outs. Yordany Ramirez doubled to right field to put runners at second and third, and Jason Smith walked. With the bases loaded, a wild pitch by Royals starter Ray Liotta allowed Gall to score and moved both runners up. Santangelo then came through with the three-run blast to make it 4-0.
Round Rock tacked on runs in the third and seventh inning, and Omaha's lone run came in the fifth inning when former Express player Tim Raines, Jr., singled to right field to score Kila Ka'aihue.
The two teams meet again Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. with left-hander Mark McLemore taking the mound for Round Rock and left-hander Heath Phillips taking the mound for Omaha.
