
RedHawks Finish Home First-Half Schedule With 11-5 Win

Fargo, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks picked up a series win against the Joliet Jackhammers with an 11-5 victory Tuesday afternoon at Newman Outdoor Field in front of 2,826 fans. The win concluded the home schedule for the RedHawks in the first half of the season.
Cory Harris gave Joliet an early 1-0 lead with his third homerun of the series on a solo shot to right-center. It was Harris' seventh homer of the season.
The RedHawks took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs. After Juan Melo and Adam Shorsher drew walks, Darryl Lawhorn singled through the right side of the infield to drive in Melo. Joe Mathis also added an RBI in the inning with a sacrifice fly to center to plate Shorsher.
Joliet tied the game in the third as Dennis Blackmon hit a leadoff homerun for his fifth long-ball of the year.
Fargo-Moorhead took the lead back in the bottom half of the third with help from Ruben Salazar. With the bases empty, Salazar smashed his fourth homer of the season.
The RedHawks extended their lead to 6-2 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Salazar added his second RBI of the night with a single to center scoring Meadows. Shorsher doubled later in the inning to plate Richard Austin and Salazar.
The Jackhammers closed within one of F-M with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth. Hitting his league-leading 11th homerun of the season, Juan Diaz knocked in two runs with a drive to left-center. Hutting added the third run of the frame with an RBI-single to score Chad Ehrnsberger.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Lawhorn put the game out of reach with his ninth homerun of the season. Lawhorn's grand slam was the RedHawks' first of the season. Tydus Meadows added F-M's third homer of the day on a solo shot in the eighth to extend the âHawks lead to 11-5.
RedHawks starter Mark Michael picked up the victory with a 5.2 inning performance in which he allowed three runs on three hits with six strikeouts. Joliet starter Nick Renault was charged with the loss as he gave up six runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits in five innings of work.
