Eight RedHawks Named All-Stars

Fargo, N.D. - The members of the 2007 Northern League All-Star teams have been selected, the league announced Monday afternoon. The contest between the North Division (Calgary, Edmonton, Fargo-Moorhead, Winnipeg) and South Division (Gary, Joliet, Kansas City, Schaumburg) will be played at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo on June 10th. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

Gary SouthShore and Fargo-Moorhead lead the way in number of all-star selections with eight each. Joliet follows closely with seven players headed to Fargo. The players were selected by team managers, radio broadcasters, and local media.

Managing the South Division All-Stars will be Gary SouthShore skipper Greg Tagert. The North Division All-Stars will be led by Fargo-Moorhead manager Doug Simunic. The managers were selected because of their appearance in last year's Northern League championship series.

Four of the eight RedHawks' selected were designated as starters for the North squad. Adam Shorsher (C), Kory Wayment (SS), Richard Austin (OF), and Joe Mathis (OF) were chosen to start while Darryl Lawhorn (IF), Dane Renkert (P), Adam Rowe (P), and Jason Schutt (P) will be reserves for the host club. A complete listing of rosters is included below.

Shorsher makes his first appearance All-Star appearance after hitting .302 with 27 runs scored, 10 doubles, three homeruns, and 22 RBIs in 42 games. Shorsher played his first 39 games of the season with Edmonton before being dealt to Fargo-Moorhead.

Wayment, who is also making his first All-Star appearance, has posted a .306 average with 26 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, two homeruns, and 22 RBIs in 42 games played.

Austin's selection to the team marks the third time he has been honored as an All-Star. In 2005, Austin was named the MVP of the All-Star game. On the season, Austin is batting .300 with 33 runs scored, 10 doubles, eight homeruns, and 32 RBIs.

Named as the Northern League Player of the Year in 2006, Mathis has been selected as an All-Star for the fourth time. He is currently hitting .350 with 32 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples, eight homeruns, and 37 RBIs.

Selected as a reserve, Lawhorn makes his first appearance on the Northern League All-Star roster. Leading the RedHawks' with nine homeruns on the season, Lawhorn has hit .278 with 29 runs scored, 10 doubles, and 35 RBIs.

The Fargo-Moorhead pitching staff sends three first-timers to the All-Star game in Renkert, Rowe, and Schutt. Renkert has amassed a 4-1 record and 4.28 ERA in eight starts for the ‘Hawks. Rowe boasts a minuscule 1.31 ERA with a 3-3 record for F-M out of the bullpen while Schutt has posted a 3-2 record with a 1.98 ERA in 18 outings for the RedHawks.
