Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - Four relievers combined for one hit over seven and two-thirds shutout innings after an early ejection of starter Lucas Harrell, but the Oklahoma City RedHawks (48-62) finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position in a 2-0 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers (60-49) before 3,384 Monday night at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
RedHawks starter Lucas Harrell (2-1) was charged with two runs and three hits over one and one-thirds innings in a losing decision, before a second inning ejection. Harrell was ejected by plate umpire Brett Robson after arguing a safe-out call on the base path between third and home. Omaha starter Jeff Suppan (10-5) dealt seven shutout innings with five hits, four walks and five strikeouts in the win. Kevin Pucetas (1) saved the game with two scoreless frames and one hit allowed.
Omaha opened the scoring in the second inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Jarrod Dyson hit a slow chopper up the third base line. Harrell came off the mound, fielded the ball in fair ground and attempted a tag of the lead runner, Kila Ka'aihue, trying to score from third. Ka'aihue was ruled safe for the first run of the game, and during the ensuing argument, Harrell was ejected.
Wesley Wright entered from the bullpen and inherited a bases loaded, one-out jam. Wright induced a sacrifice fly from Johnny Giavotella to score Salvador Perez for a 2-0 score.
The sacrifice fly started a string of 21 consecutive outs from the RedHawks bullpen. Wright dealt three and two-thirds perfect frames, Douglas Arguello added two perfect innings and Mickey Storey dealt a perfect eighth inning.
Jeff Fulchino struck out the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning before giving up a walk to end the string of outs. After a single from Ka'aihue, Fulchino induced a double play ground ball to end the ninth inning.
The RedHawks failed with runners at second and third with no outs in the first inning, and wasted a leadoff double in the eighth inning with three consecutive outs.
RedHawks right-hander Nelson Figueroa will face Storm Chasers RH Luis Mendoza in game four of the series and game 12 of the homestand at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
