
Express Win Soundly at Nashville 9-4

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Brad Nelson hit a two-run home run in the first inning and the Round Rock Express never looked back as they beat the Nashville Sounds 9-4 Monday night in Pacific Coast League Action. The Express (65-45) lead the four-game series 2-1 over the Nashville Sounds (53-57).
Round Rock got on the board in the first inning on Nelson's two-run home run. Leonys Martin singled to lead off the game and later scored on Nelson's 18th home run of the season.
The Sounds scored a run in the second inning on Eric Farris' RBI double. The Express answered in the next inning on Chad Tracy's two-RBI single to push the score to 4-1. Round Rock added another run in the fourth on Nick Green's RBI double.
Nashville scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull within one run. Mat Gamel homered, Jordan Brown had an RBI double and Brandon Boggs added an RBI groundout.
Round Rock charged right back in the top of the fifth with two runs of their own to extend the lead to three runs on Tracy and Martin's RBI singles. The Express added two more runs in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Val Majewski hit an RBI single and Matt Kata added a sacrifice fly. Majewski had hit safely in all seven games he has played with the Express.
Zach Jackson got the win allowing four runs - three earned - on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Jackson (9-4) has the gotten win in each of his last two starts.
Nashville starter Amaury Rivas got the loss. Rivas (7-11) allowed seven runs - all earned - on eight hits while walking four and striking out one in 4.0 innings.
Six of the Express starters had multiple-hit games, with three players having multiple-RBI games. Michael Kirkman and Cody Eppley combined on 3.0 innings pitched without allowing a run to close out the game.
The Express and Sounds conclude their four-game series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. CDT. Right-hander Brett Tomko (5-3, 6.65 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while righty Frankie De La Cruz (5-6, 3.96 ERA) will pitch for Nashville.
