Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - The Ohio Valley Redcoats completed a three game sweep of the Windy City ThunderBolts on Sunday evening with an 8-0 shut out.
After posting single runs in the second and fourth innings, Ohio Valley broke the game wide open in the top of the sixth. Outfielder Travis Garcia slammed a double and that was followed by a single off the bat of Jaziel Mendoza. Jason Boyd worked ThunderBolts' starter Josh Glynn for a walk to load the bases.
Lefty Trent Crotts replaced Glynn with one out in the sixth. Jud Richards laced a single to right field which brought Garcia and Mendoza around to score. Boyd crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by teammate Chase Crump to make it a 6-0 game.
Redcoats starter Luke Adkins held ThunderBolt batters hitless through five innings. Shortstop Jose Gutierrez lined a sixth inning offering to right field to break up the no-no. An error on the second baseman allowed Jerome McCoy to reach base with one out. Right fielder Nick Johnson drew a walk to load the bases. Adkins got out of the inning unscathed when he forced a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.
The Redcoats added one run in the top of the seventh and two runs in the top of the ninth for good measure to make it an 8-0 final.
Adkins tossed a complete game shut out to improve his record to 2-1 on the season. Adkins allowed just three hits to ThunderBolt hitters. Glynn took the loss, lasting five and one-third innings, surrendering five earned runs on nine hits. Glynn's record drops to 1-3.
