OTTAWA - Ottawa REDBLACKS returner DeVonte Dedmon has been named as a finalist for the 2021 John Agro Special Teams award as the CFL's Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, the league announced Thursday.
A native of Williamsburg, Virginia, Dedmon's second season with the REDBLACKS saw him tally 1,076 punt return yards, and 1,765 kick return yards over the course of 16 games. He also ran back two punts and a kick for touchdowns, becoming the fastest player in CFL history to record five career return touchdowns, at 15 games, surpassing the legendary Henry "Gizmo" Williams, who hit the mark in 18 games.
On offence, Dedmon racked up 161 receiving yards, as well 68 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Dedmon, 26, signed a one-year contract extension with the REDBLACKS on November 2, 2021.
The 2021 CFL Awards winner will be announced in a ceremony from the Hamilton Convention Centre on Friday, December 10, beginning at 6pm EST. For the first time ever, the ceremony will be free and open to the public.
