
Redbirds, 'Topes Tie in Spring Opener

Memphis, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds opened their Spring Training schedule Wednesday afternoon against Pacific Coast League foe Albuquerque, playing the Isotopes to a 5-5 tie.
Travis Hanson helped lead the way with a triple, single and two RBI. Brendan Ryan singled and scored from the lead-off position, and Shane Robinson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in a five-run eighth inning. Jarrett Hoffpauir added a pair of singles after entering the game in the fourth inning.
Newly signed Matt Ginter started for the 'Birds and allowed one hit on 24 pitches in two innings. Jordan Pals followed Ginter with two solid innings, allowing two hits on 18 pitches. However, Alex Pena ran into trouble in the fifth inning allowing three runs on three hits. Chris Russ followed with two scoreless innings before Nick Webber allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Memphis will play New Orleans (New York Mets) at Port St. Lucie, FL tomorrow with game time scheduled for 12 p.m. CST.
