Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, CA- The Grizzlies Community Fund announced today that the annual Hot Stove event raised over $30,000 to benefit Junior Grizzlies. The annual event was held on February 10th at TorNino's Banquets in Fresno.
The event, which featured new San Francisco Giants Skipper Bruce Bochy as the keynote speaker, drew a sellout crowd of 500 guests to the preseason event. Also speaking at the event was new Grizzlies Manager Dan Rohn.
The event raised $30,248 through ticket revenue, silent and live auctions and a raffle. The 46th Fresno Hot Stove event dates back to the 1950's when Valley legend Al Radka started the great Fresno tradition. In recognition of his contributions, the Al Radka award was established in 2003 and is presented to an individual that brings the community together through baseball. This year's Al Radka award recipient was Gus Zernial, a former major league baseball player who now calls Fresno his home.
Junior Grizzlies is a non-competitive baseball league that gives all kids, regardless of their limitations, the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. This unique baseball program is open to children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities. Junior Grizzlies is the flagship program of the Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund. All proceeds raised through the Community Fund will directly benefit the Junior Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies Community Fund has set a goal to raise $500,000 for the construction of a rubberized baseball field for the league. The field will be located at Gateway Alternative School on Herndon and Sunnyside in Clovis and will take on the name of a title sponsor upon completion. Until then, the league's teams will play at Woods Elementary School, located at Clovis and Teague avenues. Junior Grizzlies Opening Day is Sunday, March 25th at 1pm.
