Redbirds Remain Hot with 6-4 Win Redbirds Slug Five Doubles in Win in Series Opener
MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (25-13) won for the 15th time in the last 17 games with a 6-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (Rockies) (19-18) Monday night at AutoZone Park, thanks in part to two runs in the seventh inning and shutdown relief pitching by Ryan Sherriff and John Brebbia.
Sherriff and Brebbia retired all seven Isotopes they faced, four on strikeouts, to seal the victory for the Redbirds. Brebbia struck out the side in the ninth for his second save of the season, and each accounted for the only two perfect innings on the night by either club.
Jhonny Peralta, Luke Voit, and Alberto Rosario each had two hits for the Redbirds, and Rosario drove in three runs, two of which came on a broken-bat double to left field to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the seventh. Peralta scored two runs and drove in another in his second game with the Redbirds on an injury rehab assignment.
The Redbirds had a three-run third after falling behind 2-1, coming on back-to-back RBI doubles by Peralta and Patrick Wisdom, which were two of Memphis' five two-baggers in the game. Rosario drove in the third run of the inning with a single that scored Wisdom.
Albuquerque tied the game in the top of the fifth, and the score remained locked at four until Memphis plated the go-ahead runs in the seventh.
Tyler Lyons made an injury rehab start for the Redbirds, and he gave up three runs on six hits, two of which were home runs, in 3.2 innings of work. He was relieved by Josh Zeid, who allowed one run and four hits in 3.0 innings. He struck out three and walked one.
