
Redbirds rally late to top Sox

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis rallied in the eighth inning to beat Colorado Springs 6-5 Saturday afternoon at AutoZone Park in front of 10,217 fans.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning Brian Barden delivered a single to center to score David Freese from second base. Barden finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBI. Memphis took the lead in the bottom of the second thanks to three straight RBI hits. Bryan Anderson and Redbirds starter Hugo Castellanos each singled in runs before Barden's double scored Castellanos from first base. Nick Stavinoha drove in a pair of runs and collected two doubles in the win.
Colorado Springs scored in the first inning and retook the lead in the third inning sending 10 men to the plate and scoring four runs. Edwin Bellorin drove in two runs with a double to cap the four-run rally. Former Ole Miss Rebel Seth Smith went 4-for-5 with one RBI to lead the Sky Sox. Alberto Arias was pegged with the loss after giving up two runs on four hits in two innings.
Ron Flores picked up the win in relief with two scoreless innings. Castellanos tossed six innings allowing five runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Chris Perez nailed down his seventh save of the year by striking out the side in the ninth. The three pitchers combined to strike out a team season-high 13 batters.
Memphis and Colorado Springs will resume Friday night's suspended game tomorrow at 1:35 p.m. Memphis will send John Wasdin to the hill to face Sky Sox right-hander Cedrick Bowers. The two clubs will follow with a now scheduled seven inning game after the conclusion of the resumed game. Mike Parisi gets the nod for the home team in the second game with lefty Valerio de los Santos set to pitch for the Sox.
