TODAY'S MATCHUP

The RedHawks scored six runs over the games final four innings and blank the Rainiers in a 6-0 Oklahoma win. Rehab starter Dustin Nippert pitched five innings of two-hit ball while striking out five, and got the benefit of Nelson Cruz's first of two home runs in the game to earn the win. Cruz finished with three hits, three runs scored, and two runs batted in. Newcomer John Mayberry, called up earlier this week from Frisco, went 5-5 with three singles, a double, and a triple in the win, and extended his hitting streak to four games. Taylor Teagarden drove in his first two runs at the Triple-A level. Oklahoma earned its first series opening win since April 19 at Iowa.

FIVE FOR FIVE:

John Mayberry's five hit game was the first of the season and first since Victor Diaz had five base knocks on September 1st at Albuquerque last season. Three of Mayberry's hits were singles, including his last two at bats while looking for the cycle. Three of Diaz's hits were home runs.

HOME RUN LEADER:

Nelson Cruz enters the day with 11 home runs, most in the minor leagues, and just one behind Philadelphia's Chase Utley in all of affiliated ball. Cruz has hit two home runs in one game twice this season. The RedHawks outfielder is currently 10th in the PCL in hitting and leads the league with 29 runs batted in.

SHUT DOWN AND OUT:

Three Oklahoma pitchers combined to shut down Tacoma last night for the first RedHawk shutout of the season. Dustin Nippert, Steve Rowe, and Kaz Fukumori also combined for 11 strikeouts and zero walks, the second time this season that Oklahoma has not issued a free pass in a game. RedHawks pitchers threw four shutouts in 2007. The Oklahoma offense has not been shutout all year.

MURRAY TO TEXAS VIA OAKLAND:

The Rangers recalled Oklahoma starter A.J. Murray yesterday afternoon, and the southpaw will start for Texas tonight in Oakland. Murray went 2-0 with a 4.18 ERA over six starts for the RedHawks. The left-hander pitched six innings in three of his six starts and struck out five four times. Murray is the seventh player taken to the majors for Texas from the Oklahoma roster this season.

TACOMA AT A GLANCE:

The Rainiers have not lost more than two consecutive games this season, nor have they won more than three in a row... The Seattle Mariners recently promoted two top prospects from the Tacoma roster, adding catcher Jeff Clement (who ranks as the PCL's sixth leading hitter with a .397 average), and outfielder Wladimir Balentien.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:

Texas beat Oakland 4-3... Frisco outslugged San Antonio 14-10... Bakersfield upended Visalia 8-6... Clinton capped a perfect day in the organization with a 6-2 win at Kane County.

DOT-DOT-DOT:

Nate Gold went 0-5 with a run batted in during his quest to hit a home run for the third consecutive day. No RedHawk has accomplished the feat this season in five opportunities (Shelton once, Cruz and Gold twice each)... Oklahoma has hit home runs in five straight games... The RedHawks pitching staff has combined to strike out 215 batters this year, third most in the PCL behind Las Vegas (224) and Tucson (217). Three teams in the International league have retired more batters on strikes than even Las Vegas, led by Columbus (271) and followed by Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre (242) and Syracuse (235).

Every game this season can be heard on the RedHawks Radio Network, led by broadcaster Jim Byers for the ninth season, and joined by Adam Marco during each homestand. Fox Sports Radio AM 1340 in Oklahoma City will serve as the flagship station in 2008. The network affiliates this season are KSIW 1450 AM in Woodward, KXCA 1380 AM in Lawton, KPNS 1350 AM in Duncan, KTJS 1420 AM in Hobart, KGFF 1450 AM in Shawnee, and KWSH 1260 AM in Wewoka.
