New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Clay Hensley gave up three runs in the top of the first, and the Zephyrs could not recover as the Memphis Redbirds beat the Z's 6-3 Tuesday afternoon.

Hensley (3-2) gave up two home runs in the first inning, a solo shot to Jarrett Hoffpauir and a two-run homer to Brett Wallace. He was able to settle down after his rocky start, allowing only two runs over the next six innings.

The Zephyrs were unable to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities, going 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position. The best chance the team had to break through came in the third inning when the team loaded the bases with no outs. Michael Ryan then hit into a double play, and Andy Gonzalez popped out to end the inning without plating a run.

Gookie Dawkins went 2-for-5 with his first home run of the year. It was a two-run blast off Matt Scherer in the seventh inning to cut the Redbird lead to 5-3, but that would prove to be as close as the Z's would get.

The Z's will hit the road for a three game series in Omaha beginning tomorrow before returning to Zephyr Field for a nine game homestand leading into the All-Star break.
