Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.- The Reno Aces downed the Tacoma Rainiers 12-6 Tuesday afternoon, completing the series sweep behind a grand slam by Trent Oeltjen and three more hits by Rusty Ryal.
Reno fell behind 2-0 after one half inning, but Oeltjen countered in the bottom of the first, belting a solo home run to right, his third of the series. After three-consecutive walks, John Hester took an 0-2 slider to right field for a two-run single later in the inning to give Reno a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish. Oeltjen's second homer of the afternoon, a grand slam in the third, gave the Aces a comfortable 8-3 lead, and the bullpen held on to preserve the win and the series sweep.
Yusmeiro Petit started for the Aces in his fifth Major League rehab appearance, allowing two earned runs in three innings of work. Billy Spottiswood (1-0) threw three innings of two-run ball to pick up his first-career Triple-A victory.
Jesus Delgado (2-2) was roughed up for seven earned runs in 2.2 innings of work in a spot-start.
Ryal went 3-for-4 for the Aces, scoring three runs and knocking in one. Oeltjen finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI, while walking twice and scoring three runs. Josh Whitesell and Hester each contributed two RBI.
The Aces hit the road for a short three-game series in Las Vegas beginning Wednesday evening. Reno sends RHP Hector Ambriz (3-5, 5.62 ERA) to the hill to oppose Las Vegas LHP Davis Romero (1-2, 5.24 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., and can be heard on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM.
Reno returns home for a nine-game homestand starting with a sold-out July 4th game against the Sacramento River Cats.
