Published on June 30, 2009 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Brandon Hynick of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox threw a seven-inning perfect game against the Portland Beavers on Tuesday night in Colorado Springs.
The Ohio native struck out six Beavers and induced six fly outs and nine ground outs in the 2-0 Sky Sox victory that took one hour and 36 minutes to complete. The seven-inning game was the result of Monday night's game being suspended due to weather. The Beavers and Sky Sox completed the final 4 ½ innings of Monday's suspended game earlier in the day with the Beavers winning 10-8. Hynick is in his first year with the Sky Sox and his fourth season overall in professional baseball. The right-hander is 7-5 with a 3.50 ERA in 15 starts for the Sky Sox this season.
The last perfect game in the PCL was in 2007 by Manny Parra of the Nashville Sounds against the Round Rock Express. The Portland Beavers threw a combined seven-inning perfect game in 2006 against the Sacramento River Cats. Ryan Meaux, Cla Meredith, and Aquilino Lopez combined in the 5-0 defeat of the River Cats. John Wasdin of the Nashville Sounds threw a perfect game in 2003 against Albuquerque and John Halama of the Tacoma Rainiers threw one in 2001 against the Calgary Cannons. The last individual seven-inning perfect game in the PCL was in 1954 by Roger Bowman of Hollywood against Portland. There have now been nine perfect games in Pacific Coast League history.
