Redbirds Fall Behind Early, Lose 8-1

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Starting pitcher Nick Tropeano tossed eight scoreless innings of five-hit ball as the Oklahoma City RedHawks handed the Memphis Redbirds an 8-1 defeat on Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.With the loss, Memphis (28-30) has now dropped 10 of 15 games to the RedHawks this season.

Tropeano moved to 3-4 with his eight strong innings for the RedHawks. The right-hander walked two and struck out five in the win.

Infielder Luis Mateo (2-for-3, 2B) and outfielder Shane Robinson (2-for-4) recorded four of the club's six hits. Third baseman Jermaine Curtis (1-for-4) drove home the only Redbird run in the ninth.

A pair of first-inning homers off Redbirds starter Angel Castro provided a 4-0 lead for Oklahoma City. Enrique Hernandez hit a one-out solo homer for the first run of the game, his fourth of the season. Later in the inning with two runners aboard, Gregorio Petit blasted his fifth of the season, a three-run shot to left.

Oklahoma City tacked on three more runs in the third for a 7-0 advantage, highlighted by a two-run triple by Adron Chambers. The former Redbird would later walk home on a Carlos Perez RBI single. The RedHawks tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on a L.J. Hoes base hit, scoring Austin Waites from second.

Memphis plated its lone runs in the ninth against rehabbing Astros reliever Alex White. Tommy Pham worked a two-out walk, moved to second on defensive indifference, and scored as Curtis hit a high chopper to left.

Castro (5-4) scattered nine hit for seven runs over six innings for the loss.

Reliever Heath Wyatt pitched a scoreless seventh frame before Pedro Feliciano yielded a run in the eighth.

The two teams conclude their season series with Wednesday's 7:05 pm CT series finale at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Reigning PCL Pitcher of the Week Tim Cooney (5-4, 3.82) toes the rubber against RedHawks left-hander Rudy Owens (2-3, 5.31).
