Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - The Rochester Red Wings stymied the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) hitters on Tuesday night and flew away with a 3-1 victory at PNC Field. The Red Wings (4-1) have won 16 of the last 21 against the RailRiders (2-4) and took the three-game series with the victory.

SWB hurler Bryan Mitchell (0-1) battled through 3.2 innings, but allowed only one unearned run. He struck out seven hitters, setting a new high mark for his Triple-A career, while surrendering five hits and two walks. Pat Dean (1-0) hurled six frames in his first appearance of 2015 for Rochester. The winning pitcher allowed a run on three hits and fanned eight RailRiders. Michael Tonkin earned his second save in as many nights (third overall) with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

After two scoreless innings, the Red Wings tallied the first run in bizarre fashion. Eddie Rosario opened the third with a single before a grounder to short by Josmil Pinto forced him out at second. Pinto then moved to second on a wild pitch. After Mitchell got Danny Ortiz looking for strike three on the second out, Brock Peterson stepped to the dish.

Rochester's first baseman whiffed on a breaking ball in the dirt for strike three, but the pitch scooted away from catcher Eddie Rodriguez. The backstop tracked the ball down in foul ground off third and attempted to throw out Peterson. The attempt was late and as Peterson was ruled safe, Pinto scored from second on the wild pitch.

The Red Wings added two more runs against reliever Jacob Lindgren in the sixth. Argenis Diaz singled home James Beresford from second and a triple by Aaron Hicks brought around Diaz.

Ben Gamel tried to spark the RailRiders in the last of the sixth by mashing a tripled over the head of right fielder Ortiz and off the wall. Rob Refsnyder brought Gamel home on a groundout to short for SWB's only score.

The RailRiders look to avoid a sweep against the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) on Wednesday, April 15. First pitch is set for 10:35 p.m. at PNC Field. For more information please call (570) 969-BALL (2255) or visit swbrailriders.com.
