Grand Rapids Griffins News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday recalled forward Joakim Andersson from the Grand Rapids Griffins and assigned forward Eric Tangradi and defenseman Nick Jensen to the Griffins.
Tangradi became the 153rd Griffins alumnus to play in the NHL when he debuted with the Red Wings during Detroit's 4-2 victory at the New York Islanders on Monday. He did not record a point in 6:55 of ice time.
Signed to a one-year contract by Detroit in July, Tangradi leads Grand Rapids in goals (16) and points (31). He has appeared in 36 games with the Griffins and his eight-game point streak from Nov. 27-Dec. 26 set a team best. Tangradi recorded his fourth career hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Lake Erie on Dec. 5.
Tangradi, 26, spent the majority of the 2014-15 season with the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs, ranking seventh on the team in scoring with 31 points (14-17-31) and 56 penalty minutes in 48 games.
Originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Tangradi also appeared in seven games with the Montreal Canadiens last season and has notched a total of five goals and 10 assists in 144 career NHL games between the Pittsburgh Penguins (2009-13), Winnipeg Jets (2012-14), Canadiens (2014-15) and Red Wings (2015-16).
In his third professional season, Jensen has contributed eight points (2-6-8) and 15 PIM in 39 games for Grand Rapids. He delivered the game-winning goal in overtime against Lake Erie on Jan. 15.
Detroit's fifth choice (150th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Jensen has played in 159 games as a Griffin and totaled 44 points (8-36-44). The blueliner posted a plus-30 rating during the 2014-15 campaign, which tied for the league lead and tied him for eighth on the Griffins' single-season plus/minus chart.
Prior to turning professional, Jensen played three seasons at St. Cloud State (2010-13), registering 86 points (15-71-86) in 118 games and helping the Huskies to an appearance in the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four.
Andersson has appeared in 26 games with the Red Wings this season, tallying three points (1-2-3), six penalty minutes and a plus-one rating.
Detroit's second choice (88th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Andersson played four seasons in Grand Rapids. Between 2008-13, the Munkedal, Sweden, native registered 101 points (38-63-101) and 121 PIM in 189 regular season games for the Griffins. Andersson was a member of the Griffins' 2013 Calder Cup Championship team, accumulating eight points (3-5-8) in 10 playoff games.
The 6-foot-1, 211-pound forward has played in 202 career NHL games, all with the Red Wings, and has amassed 36 points (15-21-36) and 48 PIM. Andersson has played in each of the last three Stanley Cup Playoffs with Detroit (2013-15), tallying seven points (2-5-7) in 22 games.
The Griffins will host the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in their annual matinee game.
