
Gaunce Named to Atlantic Division All-Star Team for 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic

Springfield, MA - The Portland Pirates, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced Tuesday that Pirates defenseman Cameron Gaunce has been named to the Atlantic Division All-Start team for the 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic that will be held January 31 and February 1 in Syracuse, N.Y.
Gaunce, a 6-foot-1, 203 pound defenseman from Markham, Ontario, has skated in all 40 contests with the Pirates this season, recording 20 points (1 goal and 19 assists). His 19 assists rank him in the top 10 among defenseman in that category this season. He stands two assists away from 100 career assists.
Drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 50th overall, the 25-year-old made his NHL debut in a 5-3 defeat against the Nashville Predators on February 12, 2011. He tallied his first NHL goal against Marc-Andre Fleury in his third appearance for the Avalanche.
Gaunce, played 73 games with the Texas Stars during the 2014-15 season, recording 14 points 4 goals, and 10 assists) He also won a Calder Cup with Texas in 2014.
Gaunce is the second Pirates player to be named to the Atlantic Division All-Stars for the 2016 Toyota AHL All-Star Classic, joining Center Rob Schremp. This will be the first time since the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic in Hershey that two Pirates players will participate in the Skills Competition and All-Star Game. That year, forward Luke Adam and defenseman Drew Schiestel represented the Pirates for the Eastern Conference All-Stars.
