Rochester Red Wings News Release
*LAST TIME OUT*
RED WINGS RALLY PAST RED BARONS, 7-6âSecond baseman Luis Rodriguez singled home Jason Tyner with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Rochester rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Scranton 7-6, Monday afternoon at Frontier Field. Reliever Willie Eyre (4-2) picked up the win pitching a scoreless ninth inning while Red Barons reliever Martire Franco
(2-1) took the loss. Brent Abernathy had three hits while Luis Rodriguez and Augie ojeda each added two in the Wings 10-hit attack. Outfielder Josh Rabe added a three-run home run. Rochester has won three of their last four games.
*WHAT'S ON DECK*
HIT THE ROAD JACKâThe Red Wings begin an eight-game road trip tonight with the first game of a four-game series at Columbus. Rochester will play in Columbus through Friday before heading to Toledo for a four-game set Saturday-Tuesday. Rochester will take next Wednesday off before returning to Frontier Field on Thursday, May 26 when they begin an eight-game homestand. The Red Wings will welcome Buffalo for a four-game set Thursday-Sunday and then welcome Richmond for a four-game series Monday-Thursday.
BUCKEYE BLUESâThe Red Wings will begin an eight-game road trip through the state of Ohio tonight. Why so blue????? Rochester hasn't had a winning Columbus-Toledo road trip (five trips) since July 29-August 3, 1997 when the Wings went 4-2 on a six-game swing through the Buckeye State.
*WHAT'S NEWS*
HAPPY DAYS (IN THE DIVISION) ARE HERE AGAINâWith yesterday afternoon's win the Red Wings moved to 17-13 against North Division opponents this season. Since the IL went to three divisions in 1998, Rochester has not had a winning divisional record (last winning divisional record was 1997 when the Wings played in the IL East division).
CARDIAC KIDSâYesterday afternoon's win was the third time this season the Wings have won in their final at-bat. So far this season Rochester is 3-3 in games decided in last at-bats. If Rochester can finish the 2005 season with a winning record in games decided in last at-bats, it would be the first time since Red Wings records began in 1980 that Rochester had three consecutive seasons (2004 11-6 record) & (2003 10-7 record) with a winning record in games decided in last at bats.
HIT PARADEâThe Red Wings offense found its hitting stroke during the just-completed eight-game homestand batting .313 (83-for-265) as a team. Rochester scored 42 runs (5.3 runs per game) and produced 11 multi-run innings in those eight games. Rochester is currently batting .278 as a team which is third best in the International League.
HOT WINGâFirst baseman Garrett Jones has a Red Wings season-high 12-game hitting streak batting .362 (17-for-47) with four doubles, two home runs and four RBI. Jones has hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games batting .362 (21-for-58).
MAY DAY, MAY DAYâThe Red Wings are off to a good start in the month of May with a
10-6 record. With a winning month of May the Red Wings will have their second consecutive winning month of May (2004 16-13) for the first time since 1987 (16-14) & 1988 (17-12).
CHICKS DIG THE LONG BALLâRochester has hit at least one home run in five consecutive games (eight total during five game stretch). If the Red Wings can hit a home run tonight it would be the first time Rochester has hit at least one home run in six consecutive games since May 6-12, 2003 when the Red Wings hit at least one home run in seven consecutive games. Rochester has at least one home run in 10 of their last 11 games (15 total during this 11 game stretch). On the other hand Rochester's pitching staff has allowed the fewest home runs in the International League (28 home runs allowed).
MORE WING TIPS
HOT AND COLD OFFENSEâIn the Red Wings 20 wins this season, Rochester has batted .317 (208-for-656) while holding their opponents to a .244 (157-for-644) batting average. Rochester has 10 or more hits in 14 of those 20 games. In the Red Wings 18 losses, Rochester has batted .234 (139-for-594) while their opponents have a .280 (171-for-610) batting average. Rochester has scored three or fewer runs 12 times this season (2-10 record in those 12 games).
*RED BARONS-CLIPPERS SERIES NOTES*
The Clippers lead the season series 3-1. This is the first meeting at Cooper Stadium this season.
