Chicago Stars FC News Release

WASHINGTON, DC. (JUNE 13, 2009) - The Chicago Red Stars played the 2nd place Washington Freedom to a scoreless tie at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Saturday evening. The hard-earned point moved Chicago into a four-way tie for third place in WPS, pending this weekend's other action, and extends the Red Stars' status as the only team in WPS that has yet to lose on the road.

The Red Stars were forced to play one player down for the final thirty minutes of the match, following the ejection of English forward Karen Carney in the 60th minute. It is the second time in as many games on the road against the Freedom that the Red Stars have had to contend the final half hour with only 10 players. In that previous meeting with Washington on April 11th, the Red Stars secured a 1-1 draw.

Chicago's Swedish goalkeeper Caroline Jönsson had another impressive performance, recording eight saves, seven of which came in the second half. Jönsson has four clean sheets on the season and leads the WPS in saves with 46.

The Red Stars will conclude their four game road swing on Wednesday, June 17th when they battle Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Stadium in Piscataway, NJ at 6 pm CT. The Red Stars return home to TOYOTA PARK on Sunday, June 21st to face Kristine Lilly and the Boston Breakers at 3 pm. The Father's Day match will feature a special classic car show in the parking lot before the game. Family four packs are available for the match, featuring four tickets, four hot dogs and four soft drinks and starting at just $64. Four packs purchased in Premier and Midfield seating sections also include a family photo taken on the sidelines following the game. Tickets are available by calling (866) WPS-2009 or logging on to www.chicagoredstars.com.
