New York Red Bulls II News Release

HARRISON, N.J. - New York Red Bulls II tied the Rochester Rhinos on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena, 0-0. The match was a grueling battle, which featured vital saves from both goalkeepers and one straight red card issued to Steevan Dos Santos in stoppage time.

With the draw, Red Bulls II improves to 2-0-2 on the season and remains unbeaten through their first four games. NYRB II is currently second in the Eastern Conference with eight points.

The game began with Red Bulls II goalkeeper Ryan Meara getting sidelined with an injury in the 9th minute after charging off his line to make a clearance. Meara was replaced by Rafael Diaz who was a bright spot in the match for Red Bulls II, totaling five saves and keeping Rochester off the scoresheet.

New York saw their best chance of the first half in the 38th minute when Stefano Bonomo hit the post with a sliding shot, nearly redirecting the ball into the back of the net.

In the 84th minute Diaz deflected a hard shot from inside the box by Rhinos midfielder Kenardo Forbes, denying the Rhinos one of their best opportunities to score.

After an altercation in the 90th minute with Red Bulls II defender Mason Deeds that led to a scuffle on field, Rhinos forward Dos Santos was issued a straight red card and sent off.

New York almost captured the lead on a bicycle kick in stoppage time by Brandon Allen who nearly broke the deadlock for NYRB II.

The scoreless draw was the club's third consecutive clean sheet. Red Bulls II has not conceded a goal in the last 315 minutes. The last goal allowed by NYRB II came in the 45th minute of the home opener against Toronto FC II on March 26.

Red Bulls II returns to the pitch on Friday, April 22 when they hit the road to take on Wilmington Hammerheads FC at 7 p.m. ET.
