Phoenix Rising FC News Release

Arizona United Soccer Club returned to Peoria Sports Complex in 2-1 loss to the U20 Mexican National Team. It's the club's first match in Peoria since its debut season in 2014.

"It's nice to get out here," said Arizona United head coach Frank Yallop. "We hadn't been in the stadium. ... It's really good to get this one under our belt and then when we turn up against Portland, we're not all new to it. It was a great exercise. Terrific crowd. I thought it was an entertaining game."

Arizona United's lone goal came off a Long Tan penalty kick in the 35th minute. Mexico had been called for a hand ball in the penalty box after players tried to block an Arizona United free kick. Tan beat the goalkeeper high and to the left.

"It was a great opportunity for their fans to come out and see us play and see them play," said goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski. "(It's a good chance for) our fans to come out and see us in our home venue and for us to get a look at the home venue."

Mexico opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Kevin Lara drove down the left channel of the field and sent a centering pass to teammate Javiar Ibarra, who slammed his shot into the back of the net.

Two minutes later, it was Lara again who broke past the defense. His initial pass toward the center of the box was deflected by the defense, but the ball fell to the feet of Fernando Gonzalez, who scored to make it 2-0.

Arizona United SC returns to Peoria Sports Complex for it's USL home opener on Saturday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. against Portland Timbers 2. All reserved seating will be just $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased at ArizonaUnited.com.
