Rochester Rhinos News Release
Harrison, NJ - The Rochester Rhinos & New York Red Bulls II played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. Neither side was able to take advantage of multiple scoring opportunities on a beautiful day in Harrison, New Jersey.
The Red Bulls II (2-0-2, 8pts) had more possession in the early part of the first half and tried to establish passing lanes to put pressure on the Rhinos defense but were unable to connect. In the 12th minute Red Bulls II GK Ryan Meara suffered what appeared to be groin injury and was replaced by Rafael Diaz.
Rhinos forward Steevan Dos Santos, appearing in his first game this season, had a great scoring chance in the 26th minute off a pass from Kenardo Forbes. His back heeled effort from the top of the six-yard area was saved by Diaz.
New York had their best chance to take the lead in the 39th minute as Brandon Allen's low cross from the left angled through the penalty area eluding a Rhinos defender before coming to Stefano Bonomo at the far post. His finish hit the inside of the post and deflected away. New York continued to put pressure on the Rhinos defense and Tomas Gomez early in the second half with the first year goalkeeper making several acrobatic saves to preserve the clean sheet in his Rhinos debut.
The Rhinos (1-1-1, 4pts) last opportunity to score was in the 84th minute when Asani Samuels found an open Kenardo Forbes across the penalty area near the top of the box. His open shot was saved by Diaz and the ball cleared.
Rochester was reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Steevan Dos Santos was sent off for an altercation after a foul was called on the Rhinos. The final scoring chance of the match was on a bicycle kick by Allen that went wide left of the post.
