Red Bulls Announce Protected Roster for Toronto FC Expansion Draft

SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, November 14, 2006) - Red Bull New York announced their protected roster for the upcoming MLS expansion draft, which will be held this Friday, November 17 at 1 p.m. ET. Toronto FC, the league's newest team that will begin play during the 2007 season, will not be able to select the following players:

Jon Conway, goalkeeper

Todd Dunivant, defender

Amado Guevara, midfielder

Elie Ikangu, midfielder

Dema Kovalenko, midfielder

Mike Magee, midfielder/forward

Carlos Mendes, defender

Jeff Parke, defender

Markus Schopp, midfielder

Seth Stammler, defender/midfielder

Marvell Wynne, defender

Each team is allowed to protect 11 players from their 28-man rosters. Generation adidas players, including New York's Josmer "Jozy" Altidore and David Arvizu, are automatically protected and exempt from selection. Coming into this year, Marvell Wynne was also a Generation adidas player but it was determined by the MLS Competition Committee that he graduated from the G.A. program due to the significant playing time he saw in the 2006 season.

Toronto FC will add 10 players to its roster, but may only choose one unprotected player from each team. The following New York players were left unprotected:

Michael Behonick, goalkeeper

Edson Buddle, forward

Blake Camp, midfielder

Peter Canero, defender/midfielder

Taylor Graham, defender

Chris Henderson, midfielder

Steve Jolley, defender

Shawn Kuykendall, midfielder

Jerrod Laventure, forward

Mark Lisi, midfielder

Tony Meola, goalkeeper

Danny O'Rourke, midfielder

Joe Vide, midfielder

John Wolyniec, forward
