New York Red Bulls News Release
SECAUCUS, NJ (Tuesday, June 27, 2006) - Red Bull New York announced today that they have acquired defender Todd Dunivant from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a partial allocation.
"Todd's a versatile player who can play as a left back in the four and also can play in the midfield in a 3-5-2," said Red Bulls Interim head coach Richie Williams. "He's obviously been playing very well. He's broken into the U.S. National Team in the last year and I think he's going to be a great addition to the team. We're looking forward to having him."
Dunivant, 25, has played and started in 13 of 15 games for the Galaxy this season, registering one assist and logging the third-most minutes on the team (1,133). The Wheat Ridge, CO native is coming off a 2005 season that saw him become the first player in Los Angeles history to play every minute of each of his team's 32 MLS regular season and five playoff games - helping the Galaxy win the MLS Cup and U.S. Open titles.
In January 10, 2006, his efforts on Los Angeles were duly noted when he was selected for the U.S. National Team and earned his first cap during a 5-0 win over Norway in which Dunivant assisted on a Taylor Twellman goal.
Prior to his time with the Galaxy, the 6'0", 174-pound Dunivant first came into the league in 2003 as a member of the former San Jose Earthquakes (now, the Houston Dynamo). He made his debut against Colorado on April 12, 2003 and in 2004, he was the co-winner of the Earthquakes' U.S. Soccer Foundation Humanitarian of the Year award.
Dunivant went to school at Stanford University and was a first-team All-American as a senior. He was drafted sixth overall in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by San Jose.
