Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers came up short on Opening Night as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes earned a 3-0 win Thursday before 3,865 at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.

The Quakes (1-0) got on the board in the first when Matt Sweeney launched a two-run homer off Alberto Bastardo to give Rancho Cucamonga an early lead they would never relinquish.

Trevor Reckling (1-0) took advantage of the early lead, striking out seven and surrendering just two hits in six scoreless innings. Sammy Leon, Eddie McKiernan and Mason Tobin relieved Reckling to complete the shutout.

Bastardo (0-1) pitched masterfully after the homerun, recording eight strikeouts over five innings in defeat. The left-hander allowed two earned runs on four hits while recording the most strikeouts since sitting down batters 10 in 2006

Eduardo Perez had two of Inland Empire's four hits, recording a single and double as part of a 2-for-4 night.

Julio Perez capped the scoring for Rancho Cucamonga with a solo homer to left in the sixth off Miguel Sanfler.

The series continues on Friday, when the 66ers host the Quakes at 7:05 p.m. Josh Wall gets the start for the 66ers while Alexander Torres takes the hill for Rancho Cucamonga.
