The new-look Visalia Rawhide, led by rehabbing Major Leaguer Max Scherzer, defeated the Lake Elsinore Storm 6-5 on Thursday night. Scherzer went 4.2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs. He walked 4, hit 1, and struck out 4. Jordan Norberto was credited with the win, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of Scherzer. Colling Cowgill led the Rawhide offensive attack, driving in 2 runs while reaching base in all 4 at-bats and scoring 3 times.
Game 2 in Lake Elsinore is Friday night at 7:05 pm.
