LAKEWOOD, NJ - Playing in a "header-and-a-half" on Friday evening at FirstEnergy Park, the Delmarva Shorebirds split with the Lakewood BlueClaws, winning the back end of Thursday night's suspended game 4-3 and dropping the second contest 8-0.

The previous night's game was suspended due to fog in the top of the sixth inning with two out, a man on second, and the Shorebirds up 3-2. Alejandro Juvier wasted no time keeping Delmarva on a roll at the resumption, grounding the first pitch down the third base line for a single and chasing home Daniel Fajardo to make it 4-2.

The BlueClaws got one run back in the bottom of the seventh as Edgar Cabral took Francisco Jimenez deep down the left field line for a solo home run. It was the only blemish against Jiménez, who went three innings for a hold. Jake Bray came on for the bottom of the ninth and worked around a Cabral single, striking out three to end it.

Travis Seabrooke (2-3) picked up the win in the game after pitching the fifth inning in relief; he allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit in his one inning. Adonis Medina (1-4) took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits in 5.2 innings. Bray's save was his fifth of the season.

Fajardo finished the game 1-for-4 with a run the game-winning two-run fog-assisted double the night before. Collin Woody went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Delmarva.

Cabral went 4-for-4 with a double, home run, RBI, and two runs, finishing a triple shy of a cycle. Mickey Moniak also had two hits for Lakewood.

Jiménez saw his 19-inning scoreless streak come to an end in the seventh inning. Factoring in a 3.2-inning scoreless win for High-A Frederick on May 17, he had gone 22.2 innings without giving up a run.

The Shorebirds (18-28) were undone in the second game by an ugly third inning. With the game scoreless, Luke Williams led off with a groundball to short that Chris Clare couldn't handle. After a flyout, Daniel Brito hit a single to left, putting Williams at third. Raul Rivas hit a weak grounder to short and Clare's shovel pass to second base pulled Juvier off the bag. Williams scored to make it 1-0.

Cord Sandberg followed with a single to load the bases, and Darick Hall singled to right to bring home Brito. Brett Barbier then slashed a double to left, scoring two runs to make it 4-0. Henri Lartigue followed with a groundball to third base. Collin Woody came home with the throw, but Jerry McClanahan dropped the ball and Hall slid in safe, making it 5-0.

After a strikeout, Williams came up again and added to the Shorebirds' misery, pounding a double to right center to chase home two more and advancing to third on an error by cutoff man Alejandro Juvier. David Martinelli then hit a grounder to first that Preston Palmeiro couldn't handle, bringing home Williams. When the dust settled, the BlueClaws (28-20) had an 8-0 lead with the help of five Shorebird errors, rendering every single run unearned.

The onslaught demoralized Delmarva the rest of the way and the Shorebirds could get nothing going offensively. Lakewood starter Bailey Falter didn't give up a hit until the fifth inning, and he and relievers Jonathan Hennigan and Trevor Bettencourt didn't allow a Shorebird baserunner to reach third base, dooming Delmarva to its third shutout in its last five games.

Falter (2-2) earned the win with six scoreless, three-hit innings, walking one and striking out seven for his fourth straight quality start. Alex Wells (3-2) was saddled with the loss after giving up eight unearned runs on six hits in three innings; his ERA dropped from 2.16 to 2.01 in the game.

Barbier and Williams each had a two-run double to lead the BlueClaws, while Williams scored twice in the eight-run third.

Ryan McKenna, Jake Ring, Cole Billingsley, and Juvier had a single each for Delmarva. Cody Dube and Tyler Erwin combined for five scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Shorebirds face off with the BlueClaws again on Saturday afternoon with Delmarva's Lucas Humpal (1-4, 4.56) getting the nod against Lakewood's Felix Paulino (1-3, 6.18) First pitch is 4:05 p.m., and pregame coverage of the resumption on Fox Sports AM 960 and the MiLB First Pitch app begins at 3:50 p.m. with Will DeBoer on the call.
