Miami FC News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 19, 2016)Â - The Miami FC opened a two-match road trip Wednesday night against the Jacksonville Armada.
The first half was off to a rocky start as the Armada was able to get on the board within the first minute of action as Charles Eloundou snuck past the Miami FC defense and finished his chance.
Once the Club was able to settle into the match, the tides turned and the Orange and Blue started to threaten the Jacksonville goal.
Martinez was active early and often in the first half. He nearly equalized in the 15th minute after a driven free kick missed right.
The Miami FC's consistent attack finally broke through in the 27th minute. Poku held the ball up at the top of the Armada box, eventually laying it off to Martinez. Martinez then dribbled through a crowd of defenders and fired home his sixth goal of the season.
The Club did not let up with Jonathan Borrajo and Hunter Freeman sending in multiple threating balls throughout the half.
Just before halftime Freeman lofted a cross to the far post. Jaime Chavez was waiting far post but his header found the woodwork, sending the Miami FC into the locker room tied at 1-1.
A frantic second half saw end-to-end action as the Miami FC battled hard for three important points.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Club nearly took the lead twice. First Poku created space for Chavez, then Ryan freed up Martinez, but both shots were saved.
The Orange and Blue continued to pepper the Jacksonville goal eventually going ahead in the 65th minute. A scramble in the box went out and found Borrajo, who then sent the ball back into the box, finishing with Gabriel Farfán far post for the easy header.
The Armada immediately responded, catching the Miami FC on the break and equalizing in the 69th minute on a finish by Alex Dixon.
With the Club pressing high for a winner, Jacksonville was able to get out on the break again earning a corner kick in the 74th minute. The Armada's Bryan Burke lofted in the corner that was eventually redirected to Lucas Scaglia who finished the chance.
Unfortunately, the Miami FC could not find the equalizer eventually falling 3-2.
The Orange and Blue is back in action, Saturday, Oct. 22 with for a showdown with the New York Cosmos.
