WEEKEND RECAP FRI. OCT. 27 - Winning the special teams battle proved key as the Rebels knocked off the Portland Winterhawks, the #1 ranked team in the CHL, by a score of 2-1 at the Peavey Mart Centrium. Kai Uchacz and Kalan Lind (game winner) scored power play tallies for the Rebels in period two. Kyle Kelsey was superb in making 35 saves. Red Deer was 2-for-3 on the power play and held the high flying Winterhawks to 0-for-6.

SAT. OCT. 28 - The Rebels were unable to build on Friday's momentum as they fell 7-4 on the road to the Calgary Hitmen. Kai Uchacz scored two more power play goals for Red Deer. Elias Carmichael scored his first goal as a Rebel. Carson Latimer scored again as well. He and Uchacz are now tied for the team lead with seven goals apiece.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Rebels embark on a trip through the B.C. Division for the first time since February 2020. The bus leaves Thursday for Kamloops where the Rebels will battle the Blazers on Friday. Game two of the trip goes Saturday in Kelowna before the Rebels head to Victoria where they'll take on the Royals on Tuesday. After a Wednesday night tilt in Langley versus the Vancouver Giants, the road trip wraps up next Friday, November 10 versus the Prince George Royals. Each game on the trip starts at 8 p.m. MT and will be carried exclusively on 106.7 REWIND Radio and CHL TV.

TRADE

On Monday, the traded 19-year-old goaltender Kyle Kelsey to the Americans in exchange for a fourth-round selection at the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft, and a second-round selection at the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft. Kelsey appeared in 43 games with the Rebels after he was acquired via trade from Moose Jaw in May 2022, posting a 2.62 goals against average, .909 save percentage, a 23-14-2-4 record, and four shutouts. The Maple Ridge, BC native recorded seven wins in 11 playoff games, a 2.36 goals against average, .912 save percentage, and one shutout.

The inaugural "Running of the Pooches" takes place at Peavey Mart Centrium on November 18 when the Rebels return home from their road trip to take on the Calgary Hitmen. Tickets for the game are available through Tickets Alberta.

MCSWEENEY'S MINOR HOCKEY TRAINING DAY CONTEST The Western Hockey League and McSweeney's Premium Jerky and Meat Snacks announced today the launch of the WHL McSweeney's Minor Hockey Training Day Contest. From November 1 through December 15, 2023, minor hockey teams can enter to win a unique training experience with their local WHL team, including an on-ice session, off-ice training, team meet and greet, McSweeney's gifting, and more. Minor hockey teams are eligible to enter the contest online by visiting mcsweeneys.ca/hockeytrainingday/. Only one entry per team is permitted.
