
Oil Kings Acquire Smyth Rebman from Saskatoon

(Edmonton, AB) - The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired 2006-born forward Smyth Rebman from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 2004-born forward Rhett Melnyk and a conditional 2027 sixth-round draft pick.
Rebman, 17, is in his second season in the WHL having suited up in 52 career games with the Blades notching two assists, 19 penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating.
"We're very excited to be able to bring a player like Smyth to our team," said Oil Kings President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, Kirt Hill. "He is an exciting young player in our league, and we're looking forward to welcoming him and the entire Rebman family into the Oil Kings organization."
The 5-foot-11, 180-pound forward was originally drafted by the Blades in the third round, 62nd overall, of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft.
The Prince George, BC product played his minor hockey with the U18 RINK Hockey Academy in Kelowna where during the 2021-22 season he put up 43 points (19G, 24A) in 35 games to finish third on his team in scoring.
Melnyk, 19, suited up in 81 games with the Oil Kings, notching 33 points (12G, 21A), 70 penalty minutes and a -50 plus/minus rating, after being acquired from the Tri-City Americans during the 2022 off-season.
On January 26, 2023, the Oil Kings named the Fort Saskatchewan, AB product their 15th captain in modern franchise history.
"We thank Rhett for everything he has done for our program," added Hill. "Taking on a leadership role with our Club at a critical stage of our current cycle was not an easy task and he handled it with a high level of professionalism.
"In addition to his contributions on the ice, he was a pivotal part of our initiative to be a leader in our community by working countless hours with several of our different community partners. We wish him luck with his new opportunity in Saskatoon."
The Edmonton Oil Kings next home game is Friday, November 3 at 7:00 P.M. when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors to Rogers Place.
