Red Deer Rebels News Release

PRINCE ALBERT - For the third consecutive game, the Red Deer Rebels scored first against the Prince Albert Raiders. Maybe, it's something they should keep doing. Because, for the third time in a row, the Rebels beat the Raiders: this time, 3-1 in Game 3 of their best-of-seven Western Hockey League opening playoff series.

Red Deer now leads the series 3-0 and can end things Wednesday night when the teams tangle for Game 4 in P.A.

FIRST PERIOD

Red Deer had numerous chances, including a 3-0n-1 while being short-handed, but couldn't score. Red Deer goalie PATRIK BARTOSAK made an unbelievable save with 1:15 remaining off Raider Mark McNeill when the Rebels had a 2-on-1. The Rebels were outshot 15-8, and Prince Albert had two powerplays but didn't cash in.

SECOND PERIOD

Early on, DOMINIK VOLEK banged one off the post at the tale end of a Rebel powerplay. Then, at 4:10, BROOKS MAXWELL jarred free on the Raider blue line and wired a high hard one to give the Rebels a 1-0. At the other end of the rink Bartosak made a great save on Jonas Knutsen was on a breakaway. Momentum buster? Perhaps. In a baseball-like swing, TURNER ELSON put the Rebels up 2-0 - a powerplay marker at 7:34. Bartosak continued his stellar play, keeping the Raiders off the scoreboard. Red Deer dominated the middle frame, but Maxwell took a high sticking penalty right at the end of the period. Red Deer outshot Prince Alberta 11-7 in the middle frame.

THIRD PERIOD

The Rebels continued dominating the game but give Prince Albert credit. They kept pressuring, and at 16:57, Mike Winther took a cross-ice pass and snuck one underneath Bartosak's right pad to make it a 2-1 game. The Raiders kept the pressure end and had time to pull goaltender Luke Seimens for the extra attacker. On a clearing attempt, Elson had perfect draw weight for an empty net goal, his second of the night.

The Rebels were outshot 30-26 over three periods.
