Calgary Hitmen News Release
Red Deer, AB - Adam Helewka broke a 1-1 tie, scoring with 4:49 remaining in the third period, to lift the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at the ENMAX Centrium.
Helewka finished with a pair of goals, sealing the win with an empty netter in the final seconds to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead in their first round best-of-seven series.
Red Deer goaltender Trevor Martin was the first star, making 32 saves. The only shot to beat him was off the stick of Hitmen defenceman and Calgary Flames prospect Keegan Kanzig, who tied the game 51 seconds before Helewka put the Rebels back in front.
Jeff de Witt scored the other Red Deer goal while the Rebels penalty kill also played a key role, killing all six Calgary chances.
