Real Salt Lake News Release
HERRIMAN, Utah - In conjunction with Major League Soccer, Real Salt Lake announced the full 2021 regular-season schedule which features a 34-game slate. RSL kicks off its 17th season on Saturday, April 24 at Minnesota United FC before hosting Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, May 1. All 34 of the club's regular season matches will be broadcast live locally on KMYU and the KSLTV app and on ESPN700 radio.
RSL will open the season playing three of its first four matches at Rio Tinto Stadium, beginning with its home-opening contest against Sporting followed by matches against San Jose (Friday, May 7) and Nashville (Saturday, May 15).
The 17-match RSL home slate features and early-season match against the Houston Dynamo (Saturday, June 26) and Los Angeles Football Club (Saturday, July 3) in back-to-back weekends. RSL will then welcome Houston again (Wednesday, August 18) following Austin FC's first-ever visit to Sandy the Saturday prior on August 14.
RSL will face the Rocky Mountain Cup rival Colorado Rapids three times during the 2021 regular season, with two of those matchups at Rio Tinto Stadium. The club's annual Pioneer Day festivities will see the first match against the Rapids followed by a visit to Commerce City on August 21 before the October 16 contest in Sandy.
The MLS season will officially kick off on April 17, but the Utah club will not open play until the second week of action due to a first-week bye prior to its visit to Minnesota stemming from an odd number of teams within Major League Soccer. The road portion of the RSL schedule features intriguing matches away from Sandy including maiden visit to 2021 expansion side Austin FC and Q2 Stadium (Saturday, October 2). The club will play only two matches against Eastern Conference opposition against Nashville and a visit to Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, October 23.
Real Salt Lake's 2021 season - which starts in April and ends in early-November will carry mostly Saturday matches with few midweek matches and ZERO Sunday home matches.
On July 7, the club will face Vancouver Whitecaps FC who will open their 2021 home schedule at Rio Tinto Stadium due to the travel restrictions in place between the U.S. and Canada because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Following a brief break for this summer's international tournaments, the schedule resumes with a trip to California to face LAFC (Saturday, July 17) and a visit from the LA Galaxy (Wednesday, July 21).
To close out the home portion of the 2021 regular-season schedule, RSL will host the Portland Timbers (Wednesday, November 3) for a midweek match before closing the regular-season when it visits Sporting Kansas City (Saturday, November 7) on Decision Day.
Real Salt Lake return a familiar core of players from the 2020 MLS season squad as forwards Douglas Martinez, Justin Meram and Maikel Chang, along with midfielders Albert Runsák, Damir Kreilach, Everton Luiz, and Pablo Ruiz returning to the fray. On the backline RSL returns 2020 minutes leader Aaron Herrera alongside Justen Glad, Marcelo Silva and Donny Toia as well as its entire goalkeeping core in Andrew Putna, Zac MacMath and David Ochoa.
RSL sees a bright crop of new faces for the 2021 season with the additions of forwards Rubio Rubin and Anderson Julio to look to bolster the team's attacking core.
RSL will play its first preseason match of 2021 on Saturday, March 27 when it plays host to USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC inside of Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is set for 10:00 a.m. MT as a Season Ticket Member exclusive event.
It is never too late to get your 2021 RSL season tickets and save up to a 37% discount off individual match prices! The club is working on safety protocols and stadium capacity limits with Major League Soccer and local health officials to ensure the highest standard of safety. Season ticket members will be emailed once details are finalized to receive first priority on any reduced capacity matches this season.
Single match tickets will go on sale in April.
