Real Salt Lake News Release
SALT LAKE CITY (Wednesday, February 22, 2006) - Real Salt Lake announced today that it has acquired the Columbus Crew's natural 3rd round 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft pick in exchange for the rights to former DF Rusty Pierce. In a separate transaction, RSL has also waived Jamaican MF Robert Scarlett.
Pierce was waived by RSL on November 16, 2005 after starting in 15 of RSL's 32 games, tallying one assist and totaling 1,200 minutes during his only season with the team. Scarlett was acquired from Harbour View FC in late July, and the Jamaican international was featured in nine games, with eight starts, adding two assists for RSL during its 2005 inaugural season campaign.
WORTHEN AND MACK ON TRIAL WITH RSL IN FLORIDA: RSL has invited midfielders Joey Worthen and Ryan Mack into camp as trialists, with both players joining the team Tuesday for the second leg of preseason training camp in Ft. Lauderdale. Utah native Worthen is a Cottonwood High School product, a former Parade High School All-American and most recently a member of the United Soccer League Second Division Richmond Kickers.
Mack, drafted with the 25th overall selection in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft by the Chicago Fire, played most recently for the Syracuse Salty Dogs of the A-League. The 2003 graduate of Indiana University was a fifth-year senior for the 2002 campaign, after redshirting the 2001 season because of an anterior cruciate ligment (ACL) injury. The Big Ten Conference's Player of the Year in 2000, Mack led the Hoosiers to the 1999 NCAA College Cup Championship Game with the game-winning golden goal in the fourth overtime vs. UCLA.
