HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Monarchs SLC (14-10-7, 49 points, 4 West) heads south to Arizona to play Phoenix Rising FC in its final match away from home in 2019 on Saturday, October 12. Kickoff from Casino Arizona Field is set for 8:30 p.m. MT and can be viewed live on ESPN+.
Real Monarchs clinched its third consecutive playoff appearance in as many years with its 2-0 win over Orange County SC at Zions Bank Stadium on Wednesday. A second half surge spurred by DF Tate Schmitt who generated an OCSC own goal to give the Monarchs the lead before MF Maikel Chang's goal in the 83rd minute following a counterattack spearheaded by Chang and MF Jack Blake solidified the points. In goal, GK Andrew Putna earned his fourth shutout and the seventh of the season for Real Monarchs with three saves to secure the Monarchs goal.
With three games remaining for Real Monarchs in the 2019 regular season, the Utah club is still fighting to claim the right to host the quarterfinal match in the USL Championship playoffs by securing fourth in the West. Its first opportunity comes against Phoenix Rising FC, a side that saw a historic 20-game win streak earlier in the year and has yet to lose at its home of Casino Arizona Field this season.
