Real Monarchs News Release

SANDY, Utah (Saturday, April 11, 2015) - Real Monarchs showed flashes of brilliance Saturday and consistently displayed teamwork, possession and combination play, but were unable to capture the three points at home against Colorado Springs Switchbacks, as the visitors struck in the 29th minute and held on for a 1-0 road win at Rio Tinto Stadium before 3,310 fans. Visit www.RealMonarchs.com for highlights and post-game reaction from coaches and players.

Real Monarchs (0-2-2, 2 points, 5th West) - who drew 1-1 at home Wednesday night (HIGHLIGHTS ) in a cold and rainy inaugural match against Portland Timbers 2 (2-0-1, 1st West) - dominated the early going, with 95% possession in the first 20 minutes, allowing the Switchbacks fewer than a handful of touches. In the game's 28th minute, RSL saw an apparent Ricardo Velazco goal nullified due to offside. In the resultant confusion, Colorado Springs took advantage, getting numbers down the field and seeing MF Mike Seth latch onto a ball at top of the box, where he slotted home past Monarchs GK Lalo Fernandez for the game's only goal.

Despite the lack of possession, Colorado Springs outshot the Monarchs, 9-7 on the night, as Head Coach Freddy Juarez' team found difficulty in the final third against a compact Switchbacks defense. On several occasions, the Monarchs attack was just inches away from success, but crosses from Captain Lucas Baldin, winger Eti Tavares or outside back Jordan Murrell skipped past Ricardo Velazco or Garrett Losee.

Still seeking the franchise's first-ever win, Monarchs return to action against these very Switchback next FRIDAY, April 17, in Colorado Springs' Sand Creek Stadium at 7:00 p.m. MT, with the match streaming live at www.RealMonarchs.com.
