Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (Saturday, April 11, 2015) - The Austin Aztex (2-2-0) struggled to find an equalizer as they fell 1-0 to Arizona United SC early Saturday evening at House Park.

Although the Aztex had largely dominated possession in the first half, Arizona returned from half time with an attack-based mindset that assisted them in their possession and goal scoring opportunities. Arizona took the lead in the 49th minute with a goal by Long Tan, which was assisted by a cross from halftime substitute Brad Stisser.

Although the first half remained scoreless, the Aztex held the majority of possession and had several close chances throughout the half. In the sixth minute, Sainey Touray worked his way through Arizona's defense to an open goal with a shot that landed just wide of the goal. This was quickly followed by a ninth minute attempt by Kris Tyrpak, which was easily saved by Arizona's Woszczynski. Touray also received a yellow card in the 37th minute for his foul on Woszczynski just outside the penalty area when he ran into the goalkeeper, who was in possession of the ball. The final chance for the Aztex in the first half came in the 38th minute as Ryan Roushandel took an opportunistic shot off of a quick steal, but sent the ball over the crossbar.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Arizona increased their possession and the fervor of their attack. Arizona's best chance of the half came in the 39th minute as Jonathan Top aimed to find the back of the net, but was deflected by Austin's Kyle Hoffer. Finally, Arizona's last chance of the half occurred as Long Tan made a run to goal but his shot was easily saved by the Aztex's Devin Perales.

Arizona took control in the second half, starting with an early second half goal in the 49th minute. Arizona continued to maintain the majority of possession throughout the half with consistent chances on goal including an on-target shot by Joey Dillon in the 69th minute, which was determined offside although it had been saved by Austin's Devin Perales. Arizona's final big chance of the match came in the 83rd minute as Long Tan made an attempt on the goal from inside the penalty area but was saved once again by Perales.

Perales would help keep the Aztex in the game, providing three saves to prevent Arizona United SC from grabbing the insurance goal.

Although the Aztex were unable to find an equalizer, they had a few significant chances in the second half. Their greatest chance came in the 70th minute as Trevin Caesar crossed the ball just wide of the net. The Aztex continued to search for the equalizing goal, as a cross from Cuero in the 82nd minute sailed over the crossbar and a free kick in the 86th minute was deflected away by Arizona's defense.

The Austin Aztex will travel west to face Los Angeles Galaxy II on Sunday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. CT before returning to House Park to face the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, April 25th at 8:00 p.m. CT. Tickets can be purchased online at www.austinaztex.com.
