Reading Fightin Phils News Release

READING, Pa.---The continuation of the Reading Fightin Phils' three-game win streak will have to wait until Friday at Harrisburg since Thursday afternoon's game between the team and Altoona Curve was suspended in the eighth inning due to unplayable field conditions. Tied 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning, the remainder of the game will be made up when the Fightins head out to Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona on June 4-6.

Before the game was suspended, Reading roared out to grab the lead first for the fourth straight game. Shortstop Edgar Duran slid head first for a single and scored in the following at-bat after Tyler Henson singled to right field. The Curve answered in the second inning after Justin Howard doubled and scored on a Carlos Paulino single off Reading starter David Buchanan.

Buchanan gave Reading an effective effort as he struck out six Curve hitters in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Through the first five innings, Buchanan struck out five, gave up seven hits, and allowed Paulino's run-scoring single.

Reading utility man Miguel Abreu broke the then-tie in the fifth when he crushed a solo home run over the left field deck, but the lead would be short-lived after Andrew Lambo tripled off Buchanan to lead off the sixth inning. After striking out Jarek Cunningham, the righty gave up an RBI single to Justin Howard before manager Dusty Wathan pulled him from the game after tossing 103 pitches, 67 of which were strikes.

Reliever Juan Sosa gave up no runs across 1 2/3 innings in relief of Buchanan. Kyle Simon was next in the bullpen for the Fightins and threw four pitches before FirstEnergy Stadium fell under a torrential downpour for a 95 minute delay.

Following a brief inspection across the field with both teams' managers, Tom Honec's umpiring crew officially suspended the game.

The Reading Fightin Phils will send LHP Austin Wright (0-2, 11.88) to face the Harrisburg Senators on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Tune into Oldies 1340 WRAW-AM or MiLB.TV for the game broadcast with Fightins play-by-play announcer Anthony Oppermann starting at 6:05 p.m.
