Altoona Curve News Release
READING, Pa. - The Altoona Curve and Reading Fightin Phils were suspended with the game tied at two in the top of the eighth inning on Thursday at FirstEnergy Stadium. Rains came and sent the game into a delay at 1:42 p.m. and after a one-hour, 35-minute rain delay the game was called due to field conditions and impending rain in the Reading area. It will now be completed at on Tuesday, June 4 before the Curve and Fightins regularly-scheduled game at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Adalberto Santos was the one batting for the Curve when it was suspended in the eighth with a two-ball, two-strike count with no one out. That is where the game will be picked up when it is resumed at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Tuesday June 4. First pitch for the suspended game is slated for 6 p.m. with gates swinging opening at 5 p.m. After the conclusion of the suspended, game there will be a 30-minute break prior to the start of the regularly scheduled contest between the two clubs. A postgame fireworks show will follow the completion of the regularly scheduled game.
Casey Sadler turned in another quality start on Thursday, spinning six innings of two-run ball before leaving the game. He allowed a run in the first inning and then blanked the Fightins until Miguel Abreu homered to lead off the fifth inning. He struck out three and walked just one while allowing six hits.
While Sadler was putting together another quality outing, his sixth of the season, the offense was able to scrape together a pair of runs off Fightins' starter David Buchanan. Justin Howard, who hit his first homer in his second start of the season on Wednesday, doubled with one out in the third and came home immediately when Carlos Paulino followed with an RBI single.
Howard was once again involved in the second-run of the day for the Curve, which came in the sixth inning. Andrew Lambo tripled to start the inning off against Buchanan and stayed at third until Howard came up and singled him in through the drawn-in infield.
Howard was 3-for-3 in the game before it was suspended on Thursday.
