Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils fell to the Altoona Curve (Pirates) 5-2 in the series finale on Sunday. The teams finished in a 3-3 series tie.
Jhailyn Ortiz had two of Reading's six hits. Chris Sharpe and Kevin Vicuna each finished with an RBI. Vicuna reached base on three out of his four attempts at the plate with a hit and two walks.
Altoona took an early lead by scoring one run in the first inning and two more in the second. Reading had at least one base runner in each of the first three innings but couldn't bring them home.
The Curve tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning but Reading responded in the bottom half. Josh Ockimey led off with a double. He advanced to third on Aldrem Corredor's groundout and scored on Sharpe's sacrifice fly.
Both teams had two baserunners apiece in the fifth inning but neither team scored. Vicuna and Ortiz led off the inning with a walk and single, respectively, putting two runners on with no outs in the bottom half. They were both stranded.
The Curve pushed their lead to four runs in the top of the sixth inning. A walk and a fielding error put runners at first and second base. Jared Triolo's RBI single pushed Altoona's fifth run across the plate.
Reading responded in the bottom half. Logan O'Hoppe and Ockimey reached base on back-to-back walks. After two strikeouts, Albert Jerez was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Vicuna hit a single to plate O'Hoppe. Ockimey attempted to score on the play but was called out at the plate.
Neither team scored in the final three frames. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Jerez reached base on a single with one out but two strikeouts ended the game.
Adam Leverett started on the mound for the Fightins. He allowed three runs on two hits and finished with two strikeouts through three innings of work.
Matt Seelinger pitched the fourth inning. He gave up one run on one hit and struck out one batter.
McKinley Moore came on for the next 1.2 innings. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out three batters.
Bubby Rossman got the final out of the sixth inning. He stayed in the game and didn't allow a hit or run through 1.1 innings.
Tyler McKay pitched the final two innings. He kept the Curve scoreless and gave up one hit.
