Four-Run Seventh Powers Ponies Past Fisher Cats in Series Finale

BINGHAMTON, NY - A four-run seventh inning highlighted by a go-ahead two-run single from Carlos Cortes propelled the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (21-35) to a 7-4 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (27-29) in the finale of a 12-game homestand and final day of "Play Ball" and "Players Takeover" weekend.

Fisher Cats reliever Thomas Ruwe (0-1) walked three batters in the seventh ahead 4-3 and Carlos Cortes ripped a two-run single to left scoring Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty which gave the Ponies a 5-4 lead. Jeremy Vasquez then hit an RBI single scoring Ronny Mauricio and Cortes reached home on an error.

New Hampshire scored three early runs in the first with an RBI single from Orelvis Martinez and a two-run blast from Luis De Los Santos off Ponies starter Alec Kisena. Kisena, however, settled in and finished the afternoon going five innings giving up six hits and three runs with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Alvarez then hit his ninth homer in the last 15 games in the first, his 13th of the season, which made it a 3-1 game. He finished with an RBI and two runs scored and extended his hit streak to 12 games.

Brett Baty equaled the score at three in the fifth with a two-run opposite field muscle shot as he finished the afternoon 1-2 with a homer, two RBI, two walks and two runs scored.

Jordan Yamamoto (1-0) picked up his first win as a Pony pitching two innings giving up two hits and a run while striking out two. Dedniel Núñez registered his first save by retiring the side in the ninth with two strikeouts.

The Ponies will begin a seven-game series down in Bowie against the Bowie Baysox on Tuesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:20 PM on NewsRadio 1290 WNBF and 92.1 FM.

POSTGAME NOTES: Vasquez has back-to-back multi-hit games... Wyatt Young hit a single and scored a run... The bullpen pitched four innings giving up three hits and one run while striking out four.
